Vegan House kitties love to snuggle and play Watch Cat!
I tried to get a picture of Ingrid and Marilyn cuddling but they moved. Still so cute!
Sweet Patrick says hello! Love my goat friends :)
Susie's pups were great company again while I cleaned upstairs!
Snuggling with Dorothy!
The hospital kitties Felix, Dewey, Marley, and Aubrey like to cuddle and sit on the laundry while you're trying to fold it :P
The internet has been terrible lately, so I’m posting from previous days. Today and tomorrow are my days off!
Also, I don’t know what is up with this blog but it always says my posts/comments are from random times and not even close to what time it actually is. Strange.
Sat. 5/4:
Today I was on projects with Kendyl, closing sheds, and Security. Oh boyyy was it a long day! We started projects at 7 AM and didn’t finish until about 5:30 even though we’re technically only scheduled until 5. Thank goodness I had Kendyl to guide me and wasn’t by myself. I did some stuff by myself today while she did other things, but I always had her if I had any questions.
While it was still a lot of hard work and stressful both physically and mentally, it was a lot more relaxed than yesterday which just seemed like rush rush rush. I really like Jill who trained me and she is fantastic with the animals, but things felt a bit calmer today and I really like working with Kendyl, too.
I closed sheds (which is basically “tucking the animals in” at night; bringing them all inside, counting them, shutting doors and windows depending on weather, etc.) around 7:15 and Kendyl came with me so I wouldn’t be alone my first time. We both decided it is a LOT easier with two people. Especially with some crazy ducks and geese who like to attack people and scare the crap out of us. I still love them all, though!
A lot of the tasks for projects take place at the hospital. I got to know three of the turkeys very well these past two days. Eileen is so feisty and funny and always looking for food, Van Gogh is very quiet and timid and I hope to get to know him better, and Pearl is so sweet and I’ve spent a lot of time with her because she is blind and needs to be led to her food by sound and touch and you need to sit with her and keep an eye on her. They are all so beautiful. I’m getting to know a bunch of the chickens too, who all have such different personalities. Same with the duck/ducklings and goats at the hospital. The duck and her ducklings are so darn cute and I love their quacks and how excited they get when you put greens in their water dish. The goats are so loving and adorable. I am so mad I didn’t get a picture of two of the babies, Ingrid and Marilyn, earlier today when they were lying down with their necks/heads wrapped around each other snuggling. It was so cute! I was bringing them water but they got up thinking it was food (as they always do any time I walk by) so I wouldn’t have been able to snap a photo even if I had my camera or phone on me. It was the sweetest, though!
The amount of cleaning, poop-scraping, laundry, mopping, and sweeping I did today was insane. I hope I get used to it. That’s pretty much what I did all day but there isn’t any point posting about it...nothing exciting or interesting. Haha.
I really enjoy collecting the eggs from all the different bird barns. It seriously feels like an Easter egg hunt--so fun! And once again, sunscreening the pigs’ ears was awesome. They are too stinkin’ cute with their adorable snouts, snorting, and always looking like they’re smiling!
I didn’t get to spend any time with the cows today, but I did get to see Michael (the calf) from afar while washing out some of the cows’ bowls. I wanted to go cuddle him so bad! Same with Patrick, the goat! Dorothy, another goat, was outside roaming today like she usually does (she and Turpentine and perhaps a few others have pretty much free run of the farm) and I snuck in some snuggle time with her as I walked by!
Sun. 5/5
I was on projects again but with Joelle this time. Mostly the same stuff as yesterday with a few changes/additions. And today was another sad day. :( Unfortunately, I’m bound to have a lot of those during my time here. Thanks a lot, disgusting and cruel industries. Ugh.
Everyone who knows me knows how much I love animals. However, I never worked this closely with farm animals. That being said, I honestly don’t think I’ll even be able to sit at the same table as anyone eating my friends. Because that is what they have always been, and become even more. Sure, people might think this sounds extreme. But lets compare my lifestyle and yours and talk about who is extreme...Me, not contributing to cruelty and eating food that didn’t cause any abuse or lives to end, or you, eating animals day after day who have been tortured and slaughtered. Tell me which one sounds extreme.

Great pictures, especially the one of you and Dorothy!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I just took it by myself on my phone so it was tricky--haha! But I'm going to go with one or two of the other interns at some point and we're all going to bring our cameras to get more pictures with the animals :)
